Back in Korea Julianne and I did a lot of reading online before coming to China. One of the things we read about was how many stray dogs there are in China–and that rabies is a problem due to there being so many street dogs.
Anyways, we haven’t had any issues at all with the dogs we see here on the streets. To give you an idea of how often you come across a ‘street dog’ I’d say you can’t walk a single city block without coming across at least one, and it’s more likely to be several on EACH block.
Julianne and I just give them their space and don’t pet them. It’s not worth having to fly to Hong Kong, or somewhere with modern western style medical facilities, to get the rabies shots . . .
I’ve read some pretty sad and horrible stories about dog population measures–I just hope in the future things improve.
